First, Let me introduce us. We are Theresa and Joann. We met 5 years ago and became instant friends. After discovering we had so much in common we began a long lasting partnership. We are both in our 50's. Each of us have 3 children. Joann's children are all grown up and out of the house. She is "Bam-maw" to 3 grandchildren. Theresa is a mother of 3 boys. The two older "boys" are grown and out in the world. One teenager still lives at home. Both of us were in the medical field and are now retired/semi-retired. Joann is legally blind. Theresa has spinal stenosis and arthritis. Since this is our introduction...our first post will detail our lives.
Joann was born in Charlottesville, Virginia. For more than 10 years she worked as a Microbiologist specializing in Lab and Pathology. Joann inherited a degenerative disease called Retinitis Pigmatosa. Now in her 50's her sight is limited to shadows. Most people would consider this fate a reason to "give up" however, always optomistic She maintains a quality life. Jo is pro-active with her blindness by being a member of National Federation of the Blind (http://www.nfb.org/nfb/Default.asp).This Organization has been responsible for landmark legislation for the visually challenged. Blessed with a creative gene she has handcrafted museum quality lace and weaving. In the summer you will find Joann wearing period dresses demonstrating these hand crafts. Some of the hand-crafts she teaches include: Tatting (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tatting), Nalbinding (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nalbinding)Bobbin lace(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bobbin_lace). Recently she completed a class in clay. Other projects include Organic gardening.
Theresa was born on MacDill AirForce Base Tampa Florida. Raised throughout the United States settling in New Hampshire during High School years. After College was hired in Florida as Assistant Art Director at a Television Station. Opportunity came knocking and skills in Video Graphics opened a door in Europe. She lived and worked in Brussels, Belgium for two years. Theresa continued working in the Art Field till marriage in 1988. By this time she was living in Nashville. After 3 boys and 11 years she was Divorced. The Commercial Art field had changed dramatically in her absence so entering the Medical Field seemed more profitable. Her experience encompassed Trauma, Hospice, Orthopaedic surgery, and Pediatrics. After suffering from Pericarditis and Bowel Encarcirated she was forced to semi-retire. Being limited in mobilty has not limited her in being a shut in. Writing and Cooking are the new passions.
Both women are blessed with companionship and strengthen each other. Before their physical limitations there wasn't an Estate Sale nor Flea market that didn't spy this odd couple. Both have a limitless love of life and adventure. We plan to use this blog as our vehicle to show others the world in which we live. We recently purchased a new digital camera and plan on using it!
